QuiltCon Post #4 - The Lectures

One of the funnest parts of going to QuiltCon was going to all of the lectures.  They had a great line up of speakers!

I loved Amy Butler's lecture on color and how she gets inspiration for her fabrics.  I was so inspired and she seemed so nice and real.

Jacquie Gering's lecture was also one of my favorites.  She told about her quilting journey, her family and quilting traditions that are important to her.  Truly heartwarming!

The lecture on book publishing helped answer some of my questions and concerns - perhaps someday there will be a Skill Builder Sampler Book?

The Craftsy team was there and recorded some of the lectures - most of my favorites!  I watched Amy Butler and Jacquie Gering's lectures again and got to see David Butler and Mary Fon's lectures for the first time on Craftsy!

I loved how Mary Fon talked about embracing beginning quilters.  Check out this post to see how Shea at The Empty Bobbin put the lecture into practice!  Inspiring!

The lectures are free (don't get me started on how much I paid to see them live!) so check them out at your leisure.

Another fun thing about the lecture hall was how they had all of the charity quilts hanging along the walls.  The lighting was horrible for the quilts, but showed off the quilting well.  Seriously, the first thing you would notice when you looked at the quilt was the quilting design - the lighting cast these weird shadows.  It was neat to see the different ways that the guilds had put such different blocks together and made a cohesive quilt.  Lots of great inspiration on non-traditional block layouts.

QuiltCon Post #3

Here is the last group of quilts that I took pictures of at QuiltCon:

This was an amazing quilt!  The quilting and piecing were even better in person.  It really deserved the Best in Show Award.

I love this "Modern American Jane" quilt.  It think it would be fun to do as a group quilt along.

Blurry, but very traditional pattern and fabrics in an alternate layout
.
Love this!

I really like this one too!  So simple yet so cool.

There were many more amazing quilts but these are the only ones I had time to get pictures of.  So many ideas!  So little time!

QuiltCon Post #2

Before going to QuiltCon I felt rather obligated - in a good way! - to make some cool, handmade stuff to take.  I used some fabric from the Heather Ross Fabric Swap I hosted last fall to make this awesome triple-zip bag to hold my English paper piecing  (tutorial found here) and sunglasses case.  I made the case much like this tutorial, except I added a magnetic snap and decorative button and stitching.  Love!  And I love that I had to use the sunglasses even more!

I also finished binding this quilt for Becca to use.  It almost didn't make it - I literally pulled the quilt out of the dryer and stuffed it into my bag minutes before going to the airport.  But man, I love all of those rainbow colors.

Becca had fun playing on it during some of the lectures at the conference.  She also had fun playing with my show pass and name tag.

I made this name tag a few weeks ago to take too.  I am loving the thread on the sewing machine!  I'm not keen on the bow, but it was necessary to cover a stain.   Not as many people at the conference had quilted name tags as I had expected.  My husband thought I was kidding when I mentioned that it was encouraged in our local guild to make a name tag to wear at the meetings - we're a crazy bunch!

I hope you aren't sick of QuiltCon yet, because I have a few more posts to go and a small giveaway coming up next week!  Have a great weekend!

QuiltCon Post #1

Here I am with my quilt, Orange Trails, at QuiltCon!  It took me quite awhile to find where it was hanging and I have to admit that I started to get nervous that I wouldn't find it - that it wasn't really there.  :)

I found my online quilting bff Alison's quilt too!  This is me waving hi!  I LOVE the background fabrics!

Here are some of the quilts that I saw.  Please forgive any blurriness or misspelled names.

It was fun to see this quilt in person.  I had seen it on Charlotte's blog and thought it was much bigger, but it is only about 12x18 inches.  The nerdy stats major in me loves the name!  :)

I actually met Casey on the plane to Austin.  Sorry about the blurry picture.

This is a reverse applique quilt.  All of the places where you can see the rainbow fabric have been cut out of the linen.

It was pretty amazing!  More pictures later!
