Hey Girl...

My husband has definitely had to do this before, poor guy.
I have gotten a kick out of the handmade Ryan Gosling pics that have been floating around blogland.  I just found an old Quilt Dad's post today full of tons of Gosling-isms that were shared on Twitter in December.  I thought I was going to die laughing reading through all of them.

The funny thing is that I do ask for and expect a level of absurd interest from my husband and boy does he have to put up with something bordering on quilt obsession from me.

"oooo...look at this new line..."  "What do you think, are my quilts more traditional or modern?"  "What do you think about this block?"  And goodness knows that I show him everything I made during the day when he gets home from work.  :)   And ignore him while I write very important blog posts.

He really does an amazing job of being supportive of this obsession of mine.  So here is my guy...

Ok, he hasn't actually said this, but he holds down the fort when I need to  disappear for awhile in the evenings.  Plus he is great about watching the kids while I go to guild meetings.

Actually said last year!

Ok, he really launched into the story of how he sewed his finger when he was little and that was the last time he used the sewing machine...but he gave it a go and I got a picture of it!

What crazy supportive things has your guy actually said to you?

  2. My son always asks what happened when I shout some expletive from the other room. He listens while I explain, even though I know he has no idea what I'm talking about. He can usually figure out something supportive to say anyway! He's going to make a great husband for someone someday, just like your guy!!

  3. That was so cute! I was definitely smiling. My husband hates the fabric store and if he 'has' to go in with me, walks around like his best friend just died!

However, I do show him the things I make...because I need someone's approval - I know that people on my blog say things are nice, but it's needful to have that real voice say it. Yep, he faithfully does. "That's really nice!" =)

Your last picture of both of you is really sweet! Thanks for sharing!

  4. haha - so fun and cute! I love when I get home from work & hubby hollers "you got fabric today!" yay. I also like when he checks out my project & says "I REALLY like this one." AND he is so good about taking pics or driving around town on photoshoots with me.

  5. What a great post! And you are a lucky gal with a husband like that. Mine is wrapping our new closet doors in the spare room with flannel backed vinyl for me. We went out to the garage & laid them out and wrapped & stapled them tonight while supper was in the oven, so I guess I'm pretty lucky too.

  6. Tee hee - my husband is my sideline cheerleader as well. He's really good about about giving encouragement and reinforcement and telling my how good it looks. :) He's a keeper for sure.

  8. Love this post! Its great when a husband is so supportive. My kids are teenagers now, so they pretty much take care of themselves, so hubby doesn't have to look after them, unless he's breaking up a fight or something. He doesn't really say anything until I parade my project in front of him, then he smiles and says good job.

  9. My husband has been so supportive! He listens while I ramble on about changing my mind on which pattern I'll use, or what color combinations I want to try. AND he's actually said "You look like you need a break. I'll watch the kids while you sew." Love him!

  10. My DH knows if he stops at each quilt shop, then we'll stop at each airplane museum with equal support.

He has also built me a light rack for my long-arm machine which is more beautiful than can be purchased commercially and was under budget! WHOOO HOOO!!

and has held many a quilt for me to photograph. He has quite the wingspan!

  11. My BFF let's me count sewing as a chore, so I get out of a little bit of housework when I'm really stressed from work. I think that is the best! (But I still get dinner on the table each night!)

  12. What a sweetheart!

My husband does come in every once in a blue moon to see what I made, and every time I ask him to come look he does it without complaint.

What we all need to hear is "Hey Girl, I know you could get so much more done if you had a longarm - go ahead and buy one!"

  13. I love this. Leila! My hubby actually likes going to new quilt shops with me, he likes to see how they differ from one another. And he has made comments similar to your guy's D.C. comment...

He's such a good sport to cooperate with your post!

  14. Great post! My hubby rarely ever steps into a quilting store but he is so funny and good natured when he does. He picks up tools and asks the sales clerks to explain its use (in detail). The only comment I ever get is "that's nice" when I proudly show him something.
